E-Mail Addresses E-mail addresses are not held for all practices. Where we do hold an e-mail address, these have been withheld under the following FOI exemptions. Section 40(2) – Personal Data Many of these are personal email addresses rather than business email addresses. Therefore this information falls under the exemption in section 40 subsections 2 and 3 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act. This is because it would breach the first data protection principle as: a) it is not fair to disclose ,a dentists’ personal details to the world and is likely to cause damage or distress. b) these details are not of sufficient interest to the public to warrant an intrusion into the privacy of the dentist’s. Annex A below sets out the exemption in full. Section 31 Law enforcement E-mail addresses can be used for illicit purposes by organised crime, such as phishing. Mobile Phone Numbers Please be aware that I have decided not to release [details such as dental practice, GP etc] phone numbers where those are mobile phones (numbers beginning 07).
