A copy of the information is enclosed on 1 DVD, with certain information withheld as follows. Fewer than 10 Items Please be aware that I have decided not to release the dispenser details where the total number of items falls below 10. This is because the patients could be identified, when combined with other information that may be in the public domain or reasonably available. This information falls under the exemption in section 40 subsections 2 and 3A (a) of the Freedom of Information Act. This is because it would breach the first data protection principle as: a) it is not fair to disclose patients personal details to the world and is likely to cause damage or distress. b) these details are not of sufficient interest to the public to warrant an intrusion into the privacy of the patients. Annex A below sets out this exemption in full. The data source was the NHSBSA Information Services Data Warehouse. The data covers dispensed prescriptions for January 2017 through to May 2019 inclusive. This information is derived from products prescribed on NHS prescriptions and dispensed in the community. The data retrieved from these prescriptions is processed to capture the Prescriber, drugs and drug costs before being summarised where applicable and then held on a database. The data excludes: a. Items not dispensed, disallowed and those returned to the contractor for further clarification. b. Prescriptions prescribed and dispensed in Prisons, Hospitals and Private prescriptions. c. Items prescribed but not presented for dispensing or not submitted to NHS Prescription Services by the dispenser The data is restricted to items dispensed in England split by dispensing organisation. Drugs which have been flagged in our database as a "controlled drug" have been excluded from this dataset for to prevent the identification of organisations with high levels of controlled drug dispensing. This is consistent with FOI 7443 and as you simply requested a re-run of this data, plus additional months, we have assumed you were happy to omit controlled drug data. If you wish to receive the controlled drug data, please request this separately, after the 60 working day period has elapsed. BNF Code is a 15 digit code in which the first seven digits are allocated according to the categories in the BNF and the last 8 digits represent the medicinal product, form, strength and the link to the generic equivalent product. The NHS Prescription Services has created pseudo BNF chapters, which are not published, for items not included in BNF chapters 1 to 15. The majority of such items are dressings and appliances, which the NHS Prescription Services has classified into four pseudo BNF chapters (20 to 23). Items shows the number of times a product appears on a prescription form not the quantity prescribed. Item count may equal zero if the product is dispensed as part of a multipack or an individually formulated preparation. In these cases the item count and cost is recorded against the most expensive product, with zero count and cost against the other products. Quantity normally shows the quantity of a product prescribed. However, where a product is packed in a 'special container'(see Drug Tariff Part II Clause 10) the pharmacist is not required to split the pack and may supply the number of containers or original packs which provide the quantity nearest to that prescribed. In some circumstances these items show quantity as the number of units supplied i.e. 1 or 2 even though a pack may contain 56 tablets. Net Ingredient cost (NIC) is the basic price of a drug as stated in Part II Clause 8 of the Drug Tariff but please note that where a price concession for items listed in Part VIIIA of the Drug Tariff has been agreed between the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee the NIC will reflect the concession price rather than the Drug Tariff price. Actual Cost is the basic price of the drug less the National Average Discount Percentage (NADP) plus Payment for Consumables (previously known container allowance), Out of Pocket Expenses and Payment for Containers (10p for splitting packs). The calculation for the discount amount is the basic price multiplied by the NADP. Actual Cost only relates to prescribed England. Out of Pocket Expenses refers to a payment, where in exceptional circumstances, the contractor has incurred expenses in obtaining eligible products, and where the product is not required to be frequently supplied by the contractor (https://psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supply/endorsement/fees-allowances/oop/).
