Data for November 2011 – June 2013 I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHS Business Services Authority. The earliest period of data that we hold is July 2013. Data from July 2013 A copy of the information is attached. NHSBSA Prescription Services process prescriptions for Pharmacy Contractors, Appliance Contractors, Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration with information then used to make payments to pharmacists and appliance contractors in England for prescriptions dispensed in primary care settings (other arrangements are in place for making payments to Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration). This involves processing over 1 billion prescription items and payments totalling over £9 billion each year. The information gathered from this process is then used to provide information on costs and trends in prescribing in England and Wales to over 25,000 registered NHS and Department of Health users. The date period covered is July 2013 to June 2018. The data is limited to items Dispensed in England only. The data is limited to English Pharmacy Contractors only. Dispenser endorsement code SP: Indicates preparations manufactured under an MHRA specials licence or sourced under an MHRA importers licence. Dispenser endorsement code ED: Indicates extemporaneously dispensed preparations prepared under the Section 10 exemption from the Medicines Act 1968. Value of SP endorsements: This is the total amount paid to pharmacy contractors for SP endorsements. Value of ED endorsements: This is the total amount paid to pharmacy contractors for ED endorsements. The value is paid for these types of fees is almost always £20 as indicated in the Drug Tariff, however where prescriptions have been submitted to the NHSBSA for processing late (outside the periods required by the Drug Tariff), an abatement factor is sometimes applied to the late prescriptions which can cause a slight reduction in the value of these fees. This is the reason why the total values are not divisible by 20.
