Question 3, 6 and 7 I am writing to advise you that following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have established that the information you requested is not held by the NHS Business Services Authority. The authority does not record information on drugs dispensed and used in secondary care settings such as hospitals. However it is possible that NHS Digital (formerly Health and Social Care Information Centre) may hold some or all of the information you require. They can be contacted at: NHS Digital 1 Trevelyn Square Boar Lane Leeds LS1 6AE Tel 0300 3035678 email enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk Website http://digital.nhs.uk/ Alternatively individual Hospital Trusts may hold the information. The following web link takes you to a directory of Hospital Trusts: http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/pages/acutetrustlisting.aspx Questions 1, 2, 4 and 5 A copy of the information is attached. NHSBSA Prescription Services process prescriptions for Pharmacy Contractors, Appliance Contractors, Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration with information then used to make payments to pharmacists and appliance contractors in England for prescriptions dispensed in primary care settings (other arrangements are in place for making payments to Dispensing Doctors and Personal Administration). This involves processing over 1 billion prescription items and payments totalling over £9 billion each year. The information gathered from this process is then used to provide information on costs and trends in prescribing in England and Wales to over 25,000 registered NHS and Department of Health users. The data source was the NHSBSA Information Services Data Warehouse. The time period covered was January 2015 to December 2017 (inclusive) dispensed prescriptions. Results are based on dispensed prescription items that were processed by the NHSBSA, not including items not dispensed, disallowed and returned back. Excluding items prescribed but not presented for dispensing or not submitted to NHS Prescription Services by the dispenser. The data provided is for prescriptions issued by prescribers in the UK which have been dispensed in the community in England. We cannot provide data regarding dispensing in the wider UK as patient identifiable data is only captured from English dispensing. The dataset is limited to the following BNF chemical substances: 0403030Q0 Sertraline Hydrochloride 0403030E0 Fluoxetine Hydrochloride The data only includes patients whose age was determined to be 17 at the point of dispensing. The patient age has been calculated based on a combination of the data available on prescription form and information we previously received for the patient (identified by NHS number).  Where the age can be identified and verified from a paper prescription form, this has been used.  For electronic prescriptions, or when the patient's age could not be identified or verified, the patient's age has been calculated based on the date of birth and the end of the month that the prescription form was submitted to the NHSBSA to be processed. In addition to showing the prescribing for the UK (dispensed in England), the data also shows prescribing in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG and in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. The "Total Items" shows the number of times a product appears on a prescription form, not the quantity prescribed. E.g. If a doctor prescribes 28 tablets of Paracetamol. The number of items would be 1. The "Patient Identified Items" shows the number of times a product appears on a prescription form where we have captured what appears to be a valid NHS number. The "Number of Unique Identified Patients" is a count of distinct patient NHS numbers which have been captured from prescription forms. Care should be taken when interpreting patient counts as some patients could appear in more than one group. It is possible that a single patient may appear in more than one time period or geographical area. Additionally, patients may appear in the results for multiple medications. The patient numbers should not be combined and reported at any other levels than as provided in the dataset. Based on the general criteria for this request (UK prescribed, dispensed in England, in a given year, prescriptions for Sertraline or Fluoxetine) but allowing for all ages, patient data (NHS number and age) was captured for the following percentages of items in the geographical areas shown: YEAR  Percentage of Identified Items in UK. 2015    71.43% 2016    96.05% 2017    96.92% YEAR  Percentage of Identified Items in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG. 2015    70.38% 2016    95.41% 2017    96.22% YEAR  Percentage of Identified Items in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. 2015    0.21% 2016    0.28% 2017    0.85% Note that 2015 has a lower percentage because the NHSBSA only began capturing patient identifiable data from April 2015 onwards so no patients were identified in the first 3 months of 2015. This issue will reduce the numbers in the data from 2015 as compared to the other years reported on. There is a low percentage of identifiable patients in the trust data because such prescribing is likely to be performed in an environment where the NHS number is not known or is handwritten instead of being automatically printed on the form as would be expected in a GP surgery, so very little of the data which is captured is identifiable.
