Request: The CQC’s latest report on health and adult social care notes that according to NHSBSA data, pharmacist prescribing rose 55 per cent between 2017-18 and 2018-19. I would like to know the numbers involved – how many pharmacist-written prescriptions were recorded in 2018-19 versus a year earlier? I would also like to see the breakdown of which sectors the pharmacist was working in – community, GP, hospital etc. [On 11 November 2019 you clarified the following:]Thanks for getting back to me. • We can supply the number of items prescribed by pharmacists in England for financial years 2017/18 and 2018/19. Should the data be limited to items dispensed in England only? Yes please, the prescription numbers as described above are what we are after. • When you refer to ‘the breakdown of which sectors the pharmacist was working in – community, GP, hospital etc.’ could you clarify what is meant by this? We can break the data down into the categories under GP Practice / Cost Centre Type column in ePACT2 as below, would this be suitable for you? The breakdown as you have described sounds good – but please can you clarify whether community pharmacies come under the ‘Community health service’ category? If not, which category would community pharmacies come under? Our readership is largely made up of community pharmacists.
