Request Reference: 8767 Request Date: 09 Sep 2019
Request: How many prescriptions are checked each month? Of these, how many are found to be "fraudulent"? From these, how many fines are issued? What percentage of these fines are paid promptly? What percentage of non payers is legal action to taken to recover monies? What is the percentage split in socio economic backgrounds that fines are issued to? I ask these questions as I know that a large part of society would just not pay these fines. It is therefore grossly on fair that it is "random" as only those with the means to pay will do so. [On 21 October 2019 you clarified the following:] In response to your queries below, please find the following: • What date range should this data cover? The last 3 years. • Please clarify what is meant by ‘promptly’ – does this mean paid before a surcharge is added? Yes, before the surcharge is added. Also, could you inform me what % are taken to court, and what % (if any) are just written off.
