Request Reference: 8265 Request Date: 29 Jan 2019
Request: Dear NHS Business Services Authority, In the last 3 calendar years, 1. How many applications for ill health retirement have been received. 2. How many Tier 1 Ill Health Pensions have been awarded 3. How many Tier 2 Ill Health Pensions have been awarded 4. How many appeals were received against the decision. Yours faithfully [Name Redacted] [On 21 February 2019 you clarified the following:] Where you ask how many applications for ill health retirement have been received please clarify if you mean ‘in pensionable service’ applications only? I would like to understand how many requests were received in total.. So basically how many teachers have applied for ill health retirement? If you wish to include both eligible to ill retirement and not eligible that would be fine. Where you ask how many Tier 1 Ill Health Pensions have been awarded please clarify if you mean following the first application only or also on appeal? Both sets of figures would be great. Where you ask how many Tier 2 Ill Health Pensions have been awarded please clarify if you mean following the first application only or also on appeal? Both sets of figures would be great. Finally, where you ask how many appeals were received against the decision please clarify what you mean ‘by decision’? Please be advised that members apply for the in service ill health pension; they do not specifically apply for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 pension. So basically how many were declined. [On 21 March 2019 you clarified the following:] Apologies – if I could get for NHS.
