Request Reference: 8175 Request Date: 03 Dec 2018
Request: I am looking to find out more about the number of medical students who are parents as this data is not currently collected by universities. As such, I would like to put forward a Freedom of Information request regarding the number of students studying Medicine who have also been in receipt of support with childcare costs and/ or other bursaries or grants indicative of having dependent children, in the last 5 years. Also, the number of medical students (over the same time-period) who took an interruption of studies for what is documented as the equivalent of maternity leave. As per the FOI Act, I will anticipate a response within 20 working days. [On 16 January 2019 you clarified the following:] I note Chris Gooday''s comments regarding the data not being completely representative of medical students with dependents. I am aware of this and we have factored this into our research. For clarification, it would be helpful if ''years'' could represent academic years, so that we can consider this data alongside that which we have been provided by Student Finance England.
