Request Reference: 8163 Request Date: 29 Nov 2018
Request: for Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, the numbers of NHS Dental treatment plans submitted in the past year (05/2017-04/2018) and the numbers of "advanced dental procedures" approved, i.e. root fillings (single and multi rooted), crowns ( all kinds), bridges (including acid etch retention), chrome cobalt dentures (Full Upper and P/- and -/P and total costs, including any associated costs e.g. study model costs, but not X rays costs, veneers. Numbers of dental extractions of permanent dentition, including surgical extractions and/or involving special difficulties and 8''''s extractions. Thankyou. [On 17 December 2018 you clarified the following:]In order to clarify what I am hoping to discover:- What I am seeking is the quantity of advanced dental procedures carried out, and the relationship to routine procedures carried out over recent years, and a recorded, or not as the case may be, change in the provision of such treatments in present times, as opposed to in previous times, e.g. pre 2006? . From your response, you would seem to be stating that this information is not now reported on, and has not been since 2006? 1/ If that interpretation is correct, one must presume that there is now no requirement for a registered NHS Denal Surgeon in those areas to seek prior approval of such items of "advanced dental procedures" as would have been the case prior to 2006.? 2/ Should that be the case, then presumably the patients'''' charges imposed/made would bear some relationship to the inclusion of dental treatments of a more advanced, or skilled nature being provided, is that generally so? 3/ Obviously, and in order to draw a comparison, and one that is reasoned, data from before 2006 would be needed, preferably over a similar time period, and from your remarks, it may be that your organisation may hold such information also? [On 3 January 2019 you clarified the following:] Perhaps your colleague might be able to supply a copy of the current contracts for Dental Surgeons within the NHS Dental Services, presumably the same in Wales as in England and scales of remuneration etc., and how different practitioners, different practice/s and/or practitioner profile might be obtained, or who they are held by?
