Previous Request List - Detail

Request Reference: 8107 Request Date: 13 Nov 2018
Request: 1. The number of individuals in total being prescribed contraceptives in England for each of the financial years 2015/16, 2016/17, and 2017/18. In other words, we would like to know how many people in total have received one or more of the following on prescription: • caps or diaphragms • combined pill - Estrogen and Progestin • progestin-only pill • contraceptive implant • contraceptive injection, and broken down into the following: o Sayana Press o And Depo provera • contraceptive patch • IUD (intrauterine device or coil), and broken down into: • IUS (intrauterine system or hormonal coil), and broken down into • vaginal rings 2. We would then like to request a breakdown of how many people in total have received a prescription for one or more of the above contraceptives for the following age categories: o <13 o 13-16 o 17-20 o 21-24 o 25-28 o 29-32 o 33-36 o 37-40 o 41-44 o 45-48 o 49-52 o 53-56 o 57-60 o All ages 3. Further, we would like the data to be broken down in each age category by the following contraceptives: • caps or diaphragms • combined pill - Estrogen and Progestin • progestin-only pill • contraceptive implant • contraceptive injection, and broken down into the following: o Sayana Press o And Depo provera • contraceptive patch • IUD (intrauterine device or coil), and broken down into: • IUS (intrauterine system or hormonal coil), and broken down into • vaginal rings Please note that a patient should only be counted once for each financial year, regardless of the volume of items (eg the number of times they were prescribed or given a particular contraceptive) in the requested periods. However, if an individual received two different types of contraception in the same financial year e.g an oral contraceptive and the implant, we would expect this to be counted in both categories. Please take it that my request refers to a patient’s maximum age during the time periods covered. I wish to receive this information in electronic format, preferably in an Excel or csv file. I would like to request this data on both a national and CCG level. If possible, I would like the data formatted as follows: • I would like the national and CCG level data in two separate sheets. o For the national sheet, I would like financial year, age band, number of unique patients, contraceptive type as column headers. o For the CCG sheet, I would like the same column headers and ‘CCG’ as an additional header. If any portion of these records is withheld, please specify which specific statutory exemptions are being relied upon under the Act. Please describe each record withheld, including its date and reason for exemption. If you decide to withhold any record or part thereof I will expect all other non-exempt material to be returned to me. [On 10 December 2018 you clarified the following:] thank you for pointing this out. With regard to the bullet points highlighted in yellow, this was a typo on our part and we do not require these to be broken down further. On the second point of clarification, we were intending that "all ages" would capture the total number of individuals receiving contraceptives, not just those 61 and up, to ensure the age categories added up to the total number.
