Request Reference: 7668 Request Date: 08 May 2018
Request: The data contained in the documen ‘Prescribing by Dentists. England, 2014’ provide an overall indication of the number of prescriptions issued for high concentration fluoride toothpastes (Duraphat 5000 and Duraphat 2800). Can you supply information on the breakdown of the data by Local Area Team and the distribution of the number of prescriptions per contract number? What I am interested in is whether the prescribing pattern is of a small number of contract holders issuing large numbers of prescriptions for the products or that all contract holders prescribing some. Secondly but linked is the distribution of the ratio of the two formulations (5000ppm and 2800ppm) by contract holder, i.e. does a contract holder tend to issue prescriptions for the same product or is discriminatory to some extent. [On 21 May 2018 you clarified the following:] Thank you for your email and my apologies concerning the lack of clarity in the original request. If the data are available for other years it would be enormously helpful. I realise the issues associated with any FoI request and some of the resource constraints that they impose. If you do have the data from 2014 onwards and it does not require considerable resources I would be grateful if that information could be provided. The data would be for the financial year. Please do get back to me if any matter is unclear. With kind regards, [On 30 May 2018 you clarified the following:] Specifically, could the data be supplied at practice level if possible yes for branded and generic: it is the overall balance between the items and how the total and the ratio of them may vary between contract holders the data over the period you gave identified would be excellent
